Root Canal Therapy

St. Louis Magazine - Top Dentist Award

Root canal treatments are necessary when decay or dental caries penetrate too far down into the tooth and infect the root; this treatment also might be necessary if a tooth has been badly damaged. The root canal procedure cleans out the infection and can save the tooth. After root canal treatment, the tooth is protected with a crown. While some patients fear root canal therapies, the doctors at Masterpiece Smiles ensure that patients remain comfortable for a painless process.

Before the root canal, Dr. Frith takes a mold of the existing tooth; this mold is sent to a lab that creates a one-of-a-kind crown for the patient. After the root canal, a temporary crown is placed over the tooth to protect it until the permanent crown is completed. It takes a few weeks for the lab to design the crown.

Patients should experience no pain in the treated tooth. In fact, many patients report feeling a sense of relief after the treatment as their dental pain and problems have been remediated.
